Nowadays, the well-being of their collaborators is an increasing concern on the organizations. There are physiological conditions which influence – with positive or negative impact – an individual’s well-being in his daily life, affecting his emotions and behaviors on personal, social and professional levels. Halitosis is a constraining physical symptom with a significant impact on the individual. Besides the fact that it diminishes his well-being and life’s quality, it may indicate the existence of serious diseases. This work studies the impact of the halitosis’ self-perception on the individual’s wellbeing and analyses the sub-components: emotions and physical behaviors. It’s an innovator study – based on a new experimental paradigm we carried out an experience with 3 parts, on a sample of 31 people, divided by three groups on different conditions: a group of control (Z), an experimental group (X) – manipulation of the halitosis visual perception and an experimental group (Y) - manipulation of the halitosis visual and taste self-perception in order to analyze the differences on a groups’ dynamics. We used a medical questionnaire (pre-testing) about mouth’s hygiene routines, a questionnaire before and after the test that involved PANAS’ scale of emotions of Watson and Clark (1988), a scale of life’s quality that measures behaviors connected with the perception of halitosis (Nunes, 2009), the scale of group’s reaction questionnaire by Kunh and Poole (2000) and a groups’ dynamics. The results have shown that the manipulated halitosis had a significant impact on the individuals, diminishing their positive emotions. There was no significant impact on the negative emotions’ increase, nor in the physical behaviors connected with halitosis’ perception. This experimental study demonstrated that the halitosis’ perception has an impact on the emotional state of the individual, beings able to affect his well-being. Therefore, in order to allow organizations to become aware of the halitosis’ impact on their collaborators and of the need to develop treatment and prevention measures, this study is an increase in value.
